How Coaching Works
We Start with an Initial Consulation Free-of-Charge
Coaching is a matter of trust. You will only be open for advice if you have confidence in me. That's why I offer a non-binding first conversation at no charge. During this interview, we will have an opportunity to get an idea of each other, to clarify your concerns and expectations of what coaching can offer and to see whether coaching is right for you.
The Purpose of Coaching is to Reach a Goal
If we jointly agree to begin the coaching process, we will first need to define the coaching goal. Because only if you know exactly where you want to go, can I help you achieve it. Experience has shown that such goal-setting is often the start of an adventurous journey. It is almost like taking a trip: if you know the destination it is not difficult to determine the best route to take, and even where you might like to stop for sightseeing along the way.
What Occurs during Coaching
Unlike most consultations, each coaching client is the expert on the topic. You will not receive any advice or recommendations from me unless you expressly ask for them. As a coach, it is my job to help you recognize structures and identify your needs. Together we will conduct exercises to consider different aspects and to question
long-held opinions and views. Change often triggers strong, negative feelings. I will aid you in discovering why this is the case and find ways to turn them into a sense of well-being.

Duration and Cost
How many Coaching Sessions should you Plan for?
Since coaching is solution-oriented, it is often possible to reach your goal very quickly. In addition to the first free meeting, you should plan on scheduling about three further coaching sessions. On the journey to your destination, you will undoubtedly also encounter new topics of interest. Together, we will decide whether additional coaching is necessary to handle these topics or if you can work on the new topics in a different way.
The Techniques I Use
It may sound somewhat banal, at first, but asking the right questions is one of the most successful coaching techniques. I will be asking you a lot of questions intended to encourage you to think. Some you may find bothersome or irritating but they will act to stimulate your imagination.
I also use techniques from nonviolent communication recommended by Marshall Rosenberg. These techniques are mainly useful in analyzing your feelings, because, according to Rosenberg, your feelings are the key to discovering your needs. So prepare to be annoyed sometimes and welcome it, because then you will realize an important need you otherwise may have overlooked. Some typical needs are shown in this picture.
Techniques based on NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), supported by findings from brain research, have proven themselves, too, especially in order to arrive at new perspectives and ways of thinking.
Which technique will be used depends on the subject you need to work on, as well as your personal preferences. One person may be seeking a new vision, while another prefers to follow a more pragmatic map. But, whatever we do, we will always remain focused on achieving your goal, not on finding the root causes of problems.
How much does a Coaching Cost?
Each coaching session lasts about 90 minutes and costs €180. My coaching company is organized as a micro-business, since I also work part-time creating change communications for a major international logistics firm. For you, this offers the advantage that no VAT is charged.
Your Tax Office will also Provide Support
If you apply coaching for professional purposes in Germany, you can write the costs incurred off your taxes as an educational expense.
Invest in Yourself
I encourage you not to merely consider the cost of coaching, because after all - unlike a new handbag, a pair of shoes or a weekend trip - it is an investment in ensuring your future long-term happiness. And thanks to the initial free consultation, entirely without risk. If you find that you are unprepared to begin a coaching relationship with me, you will have gained at least one insight you did not have before.
